Attendance
At Idle Church of England Primary School, we believe that good attendance is essential for children to achieve their full potential. Attending school regularly supports pupils to succeed academically, develop socially and build positive habits for the future.
We expect all pupils to attend school every day, on time and ready to learn.

Why Attendance Matters
Regular attendance:
- Supports children to achieve their best possible outcomes
- Helps build confidence, friendships and a sense of belonging
- Ensures continuity of learning and progress
Missing school can have a significant impact on a child’s education and wider life chances.
Our Approach
Safeguarding is at the heart of our attendance procedures. We have robust systems in place to ensure that every child is accounted for each day and that any concerns are followed up promptly.
We work closely with families to promote and support good attendance and will offer guidance where needed.
Illness and Absence
We recognise that there will be occasions when children are unable to attend school due to illness or unavoidable medical appointments.
If your child is absent, please inform the school office as soon as possible on the first day of absence.
Term-Time Holiday
Parents are asked to be aware that:
- Children should not be taken out of school for holidays during term time
- There is no automatic right to take leave during term time
- Requests for leave must be made in advance using a Leave of Absence form. You can access the electronic form here: https://www.bradford.gov.uk/LOAForm
Requests will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.
Penalty notices may be issued in line with local authority guidance where unauthorised leave is taken during term time. Leave of absence requests must be completed before the leave begins as we cannot grant a leave of absence retrospectively.
Working in Partnership
We value strong partnerships with parents and carers and ask for your support in ensuring your child attends school regularly and on time.
Together, we can ensure every child has the best possible start in life and the opportunity to grow and flourish.
